Bolivia is a South American country with a varied terrain spanning across the Andes Mountain Range, the Atacama Desert and the Amazon Rainforest. The culture is bright, colorful and festive; it is also home to the highest percentage of indigenous people, therefore community-based tourism is popular and offers the best experiences with rich traditions. La Paz is Bolivia’s capital and located at a whopping 3500 meters above sea level, making it the highest capital city in the world. Highlights and favorites of Bolivia are the Uyuni salt flats, the small town of Copacabana and the Islands of the Sun and Moon, with ancient history dating back to the Inca time period. Other top destinations are Lake Titicaca, the town of Potosi in the southern highlands, and Santa Cruz to the south. Wildlife in Bolivia is so biodiverse, species are still being discovered to this day. Thanks to the lush Amazon and mix of rugged terrains, the wildlife is rare and exotic.

Day 1 - Santa Cruz

You will have a private transfer upon your arrival to the Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The airport is located just 25 minutes from the city´s downtown. Look for a sign with your name on it when arriving.

SANTA CRUZ (Half day)

Today you will begin exploring the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, one of Bolivia’s largest cities. You may be pleasantly surprised with the small town feeling it offers in the relaxed and tropical atmosphere. In this half day tour, you will be able to visit historical sites like neoclassical government buildings, colonial style plazas, museums and the rose-colored brick building of the Metropolitan Cathedral and its remarkable wooden vaults and architecture.

You will spend the night at Hotel Radisson (Standard room).

Day 2 - Santa Cruz- International airport Viru Viru-Alcantari Airport- Sucre (Breakfast)

MUNICIPAL BOTANICAL GARDEN VISIT (Half day)

The Botanical Garden is located 12 km east of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Guapilo area). A large part of the garden is intended for the preservation of the only sub-humid plain and forest in Chaco owned by the municipality of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and 11 hectares for the implementation of infrastructure for the production of different forest plants and ornamental.

It has more than 500 species of flora, 12 species of mammals, more than 200 species of birds, among other species. The Botanical Garden implements permanent research and education programs for the promotion of an environmental culture at different levels of the population, aimed at preservation, restoration, sustainable use of plants and the environment in general and conservation of native flora. It also supports urban tree management through policy advice.

Private transfer from your hotel to Viru Viru International Airport.

​Today you will fly from Santa Cruz to Sucre. The air ticket is not included.

Transfer from the airport to your selected hotel in Sucre with English speaking guide.

At your arrival, look for a sign with your name on it. The airport is located in the town of Yamparáez, about 35 km from Sucre and it will take approximately 45 minutes to one hour to arrive.

You will spend the night at Hotel Villa Antigua (Standard Room).

Day 3 - Sucre (Breakfast)

SUCRE CITY TOUR (Half day)

Pick up from the hotel at the indicated time, to start a visit to the white city “Sucre”. You go to the viewpoint of the Recoleta, arrive to the square “Pedro Anzures”, where the city was founded in 1538, it bears the name of its founder.

There is a viewpoint from which you can appreciate a beautiful panoramic view of the city of the four names.

In the place is one of the most important museums named “ASUR”, it has an exhibition of fabrics of the cultures “Tarabuco”, “Jalq’a” and “Tinquipaya”, it is a project of recovery, promotion and sale of textiles from these areas representing the most important and representative textiles in Bolivia.

Continuing the visit you will enter the convent of the Order of Franciscans to appreciate the colonial architecture and the conventual life of the time. We continue our tour through the colonial streets, passing through the front of churches: San Lazaro, the first cathedral of the city, the convent of Las Clarisas, the church of Santo Domingo and we reach the heart of the city: The main square “25 de Mayo” and we end our tour with the visit to the “Casa de la Libertad”, where Bolivia was born to the republic.

Finally, return to the hotel.

You will spend the night at Hotel Villa Antigua (Standard Room).

Day 4 - Sucre- Potosi- Uyuni (Breakfast)

Transfer from hotel in Sucre to the bus station with English speaking guide.

The bus station is located about 10 minutes from city centre.

Public bus from Sucre to Potosi. The journey takes about 3 hours.

POTOSI MINES TOUR (Half day)

We pick you up from the hotel, arrive at El Calvario market where the miners make the purchase of several of the items they need before entering the mines. You go up to the Cerro de Plata tourist complex on the slopes of Sumaj Orcko (cerro rico), where they will provide you with clothes,helmets,lamps and boots to enter the mine.

You will enter one of the colonial mines, will see the way of working and the extraction of minerals from the great silver mountain, world monument of peace. You will also learn about the ritual and the offering that the miners offer to "El Tío", a deity representing the god of darkness.

After two hours of touring the circuit, you leave the mine to return to the complex, change, clean, freshen up and return to the hotel.

Note: The activity includes helmet, jacket, pants, boots, electric lamp.

Transport from Potosi to Uyuni. The trip will take approximately 3.30 hours.

You will spend the night at Hotel Jardines de Uyuni (Standard Room).

Day 5 – Uyuni- Airport Joya Andina- Uyuni- El Alto -La Paz- La Paz (Breakfast)

UYUNI TOUR (Full day)

The Salar de Uyuni, the most impressive natural attraction of Bolivia and the largest salt flat of the world with 10,582 km2, offers you one of the most incredible views that you can imagine.

The first stop in the itinerary will be the Train Cemetery where you will see the remains of very old wagons and trains from the 30`s. You will continue to Colchani, a salt-processing town, where hand-made objects are on sale, many of them made of salt.

Continue your visit at the Incahuasi Island located in the middle of the salt flat, covered with ancient cacti (that can be up to 18 meters tall) and a rare ecosystem that has survived centuries.

Then, time to try out different positions for your ultimate optical illusion photo.

Finally, you will admire the stunning sunset in the Salt Lake with a toast with Bolivian liqueurs before go back to your hotel in Uyuni town.

Note: this visit is subject to variation due to weather conditions.

​​​​​​​​​​​Transfer from your hotel to Joya Andina Airport in Uyuni. It will take approximately 15 minutes to arrive.

You will have a flight from Uyuni to La Paz

You will have a private transfer from El Alto International Airport to your selected hotel in La Paz. This is the highest international airport in the world with an altitude of 4 060 meters above the sea level. The airport is located in the city of El Alto, 50 minutes from La Paz.

Look for a sign with your name on it.

You will spend the night at Ritz Apart Hotel (Executive Room).

Day 6 - La Paz (Breakfast)

LA PAZ CITY TOUR & MOON VALLEY (Full day)

When you visit the highest capital city of the world, La Paz, you are welcomed by extreme geography, fragrant markets, chaotic streets and colorfully dressed Bolivians roaming around the city. La Paz is known as “Nuestra Señora de La Paz” and is located in Western Bolivia.

During the city tour you will visit the Plaza Murillo where the Bolivian government is based, as well as an important and immense cathedral and the Presidential Palace. There are also very interesting markets to visit such as the “Mercado de las Brujas" where community healers will offer an array of medicinal plants as well as potions, powders, incense, amulets and talismans that ensure good health, luck, beauty and fertility. You will also see locals practicing traditional rituals such as reading the fortune in coca leaves.

Additionally you will be driven to a special location where you will have a 360 degree view of the city and then, you will visit the Moon Valley, aptly named, this site is unique for its features of lunar-like landscapes and bizarre geological formations.

The Moon Valley is not actually a valley but a maze of canyons and giant spires. The clay and sandstone formations were formed by the erosion of mountains because of strong winds and rains. One of the most breathtaking features of the place is its varied colors ranging from clear beige tones to sections of red and dark purple due to the different mineral content between each individual mountain. Several species of cactus grow among the stalagmites, including the hallucinogenic Choma, or San Pedro cactus.

Museums of La Paz

Also, you will visit La Paz best-preserved colonial street “Calle Jaén” where four interesting museums are clustered together. You can chose to include the visit of the Museum of Precious Metals and the Museo Costumbrista, the most popular ones, or the others two museums available (Entrances to two museums are included).

Note: Museums closed on Mondays and Saturday/Sunday afternoons.

La Paz Cable car experience

Transfer to the cable car station (teleférico).

La Paz has the largest cable car system in the world. It’s a great and handy way of transportation as well as the best way to enjoy the amazing views of the city and its surrounding mountains. Exploring La Paz by cable car is absolutely unique!

Day 7 - La Paz- Copacabana- Sun Island (Breakfast, Dinner)

Upon arrival to La Paz Bus Station, transfer to your selected hotel in La Paz.

Look for a sign with your name on it.

You will travel by public bus from La Paz to Copacabana bus terminal. The journey takes about 4 hours.

2D COPACABANA, SUN & MOON ISLANDS EXCURSION

FIRST DAY - From Copacabana to Sun Islands

Short walk to Titicaca lake’s shore to board a private boat to Sun Island.

A buffet lunch menu at Hotel Puma Punku Eco Lodge restaurant, with beautiful views of the lake, is included.

Continuing your boat route across Lake Titicaca, you will arrive to the south part of the Island of the Sun, where you will visit the Archaeological remains of "Pilkokaina", the Inca Sun Temple too.

Later, a journey up the Escalinatas de Yumundi, a traditional Inca stair, to get the "Youth Source" or sacred water. It is believed that this is the eternal youth's source. You will also enjoy the beauty of the Incan garden.

Transfer to your hotel and time to enjoy one of the most unforgettable experiences in Bolivia; the sun setting over the Lake Titicaca.

You will spend the night at La Estancia Ecolodge (Cottage).

Day 8 - Sun Island- Copacabana- La Paz (Breakfast, Dinner)

SECOND DAY - From Sun Island to Moon Island and Copacabana

After breakfast, you will return to Copacabana by private boat visiting the Moon Island en route.

Moon Island, also called Koati, is a small and rugged island, where is located the temple Iñakuyu or Palace of the Virgins of the Sun, inhabited by Virgin women at Inca time. It is also said that they could be used for sacrifices, and only the Inca emperor was allowed to enter the Island.

At your arrival to Copacabana, visit of the Brown Virgin's Sanctuary, where the parishioners go to ask fortune. You will enjoy of the colorful local market of Copacabana.

Lunch is included.

You will travel by public bus from Copacabana to La Paz bus terminal. The journey takes about 4 hours.

LOMAS DE ARENA VISIT (Half day)

Exotic place with a magnificent landscape of sand dunes that reach up to twelve meters in height. Arrive to the Park and commence our guided trek of the area visiting the lakes, learning about the park and exploring the surrounding forest looking for some of the areas unique wildlife.

A tourist visa can be obtained at a Bolivian Embassy or Consulate in the United States or neighboring country. In addition, a tourist visa can be purchased at any land or air border. Entry is granted for 30 days. U.S. citizens who wish to extend their stay can apply for an extension through Administración Nacional de Migración (National Migration Service), which has offices in most major cities.
