November – April
After breakfast, you will leave your hotel early (03:30 AM) heading towards the Southern Valley. Your first stop will be in Pitumarca, where you will take the road to the town of Quesiuno. Once there, you will be transferred to the Inkintuyoc Bridge, where you will have an energetic breakfast. Then, start the hike along the path of a beautiful stream; in the ascent you will enjoy beautiful landscapes and you will see flocks of Andean camelids like llamas and alpacas. On the way, the highest peak in the region, the Apu Ausangate, will reveal its majesty and the magic and energy of the place will captivate you. Afterwards, you will enjoy a box lunch. Keep hiking and you will see various fields of cultivation -especially of para and its varieties- that are worked in the area; You can also see wildlife such as chinchillas, vicuñas and maybe also the Andean cat. After a few hours of walking, you will come to the main attraction of this experience: Vinicunca, known as Rainbow Mountain. Upon arriving at the site, you will participate in a small Andean ceremony with Coca leaves as a thank you to the Apu, for having allowed you to reach the place successfully. Then, you can explore the area, take pictures and also renew your energies before the descent.
May – October
You will leave early (05:00 AM) from your hotel towards the Southern Valley. Make your first stop in Combapata and then take the dirt road to the town of Palccoyo (4,202 m / 13, 789 ft). Along the ascent to the starting point of the hike we will begin to enjoy beautiful landscapes and see groups of herds of Andean camelids as they are llamas and alpacas; The highest peak in the region, the “Apu Ausangate” will reveal its majesty. We`ll arrive at Palccoyo and get ready for the hike with a shirt briefing from the guide, preparing to start the trek to the top of the red mountains to appreciate a wonderful landscape. After walking approximately 1 hour, at a very calm pace we will reach the main attraction of this experience, Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain (4,980 masl / 16,338ft). We`ll give thanks by making a small Andean ceremony with Coca leaves to offer to the Apu for having us allowed to successfully reach the place, then we will have enough time to explore the area, take photos. After a short rest we continue exploring the area and we walk for 1 hour more to the forest of stones very close to the area where we find a magnificent place and lookout to appreciate in its splendor the Ausangate snow, on arrival we will have enough time to explore a bit and take pictures of the wonderful landscape. After renewing the energies, we started the descent by the same path, the return walk will take between 45 minutes to reach the starting point of the road where we will board the transport that will bring us back to Cusco af:ter 3 hours of travel, arriving in Cusco between 16:00 hours approximately.
